Investigator Gary Plank, Nebraska State Patrol

Mr. Plank has been a member of the Nebraska State Patrol for 28 years. Since 1984 he has worked in the Criminal Investigation Division and currently works in the Behavior Analysis Unit.

 

Mr. Plank earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Chadron State College. He also completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime’s year-long Police Fellowship Program in 1991 at the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Mr. Plank graduated that program and became Nebraska’s first Criminal Investigative Analyst (sometimes known as Profiler).

 

Since that time, Mr. Plank has organized the Behavior Analysis Unit and is the Behavior Profiler for the State. He manages many of the state’s Threat Assessment cases on political, public, private, and school officials. Mr. Plank has also consulted on violent crimes ranging from homicide to product tampering for agencies across the United States and other countries.

 

Mr. Plank has been involved with many research projects on violent crime including Serial Sexual Assault, Stalking, and Threat Assessment. In these projects he has worked with the F.B.I., the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the University of Nebraska’s Law/Psychology Department respectively.
